Hey, Nenad, I couldn't find an email for you, so I wanted to leave a comment and let you know that we featured Rescue: The Beagles as our Free Indy of the Week on our show, Bytejacker. The episode is here:

http://www.bytejacker.com/episodes/004

Hopefully you'll get a chance to check it out. I loved the game. It's been the one I've played the most obsessively over the last couple weeks.

Thanks!

This game is really fantastic. A simple, but excellent idea and very well executed. It's really the best freeware title I've played in a long time.

So besides a splash screen and instructions, what are the other changes you have planned for the final version?

Hi Nenad! I have been checking out your game Rescue: The Beagles. You wrote in the readme that you wanted some feedback, so here it is:

Despite it being just a bit to hard in the beginning I like the game. The bakgrounds are beautifully simple and works nicely with the pixel art, and the controls are fast and sensitive. I actually never got frustrated over the controls, something really unusual in indie-games.

This is what I think you could improve:
It's too hard in the beginning! You don't want people to give up in the first level!
You have a lot of elements in the game, like ropes, parachutes, moving dogs, hurt dogs and so on, creating a really complex gameplay. Instead of throwing them all onto the player in the first level you could present them one by one during the first couple of levels, letting the player get used to the basics before being forced to think of the complicated elements.
You absolutely should create a co-op mode, so that two friends can play at the same keyboard, one as Nicole and one as Edwin!

Thanks for a good game

The game is cool, and this picture just hits the hammer on the head. Very good.

Btw, I always chose Edwin for playing. Now that I see how cute Nicole looks in "real life", I think I'll switch over to chosing her ;)

Just installed this off the PCZone demo dvd this month, and wanted to pass on my praise. Brilliant fun, reminds me exactly of the games I played growing up. Stupidly good.

I have 3 small suggestions for the final version:

1. Do something to prevent the game from creating square pits. If they're on the bottom layer, it's impossible to get a dog out without using a rope and a parachute, screwing the player out of the no-item bonus through no fault of their own

2. Add the ability to customize button layout. There are still some of us for whom hitting "up" to jump in a platformer feels weird. (Also hitting "down" for a parachute).

3. Occasionally I start a level with no owls in sight and vivisectionists everywhere. Please do something to make sure that the player always has the necessary tools in reach.
